Need for Speed Unbound is the next installment of the legendary NFS racing game series, released in 2022. It differs from the other parts by the style of drawing, more realistic physics and elaborated AI system.

Need for Speed Unbound is the twenty-fifth installment in the Need for Speed series, introduced by Electronic Arts in October 2022.

The game is set in the fictional city of Lakeshore City. The protagonist, nicknamed Speedy, and his partner Yaz repair old cars in the workshop of their mentor. One day they have a conflict over a car. Yaz says that she is tired of the monotonous work in the car repair shop and would like to do something more. She tells Speedy that her friend Alec contacted her and offered to participate in a case involving bringing cars into town that could challenge the police fleet.

Alec agrees to participate, but after completing the delivery mission, she finds no one at the agreed upon location and Yaz cannot be contacted. In the end it turns out that the protagonist's ex-girlfriend stole all the vintage cars from the garage by associating with a group of badass street racers. A few years later, it's up to the hero to rise up in the local hierarchy by winning racing competitions to challenge Yaz.

Need for Speed Unbound differs from the other games in the series in the drawings - it became more "cartoonish", but the overall realistic look of the city and cars is still preserved. Game mechanics are mainly focused on races, but not limited to them. NFS Unbound is an open-world, there is an elaborate system of customization. In this part the developers decided to refuse the system of levels, that forces players to pass simple races once more to get the money for boosting the car if the level is very different from the opponent's one.

At the same time the physics became more elaborated - the cars brake more smoothly, enter the skidding better, when driving the selected car you feel its weight and dimensions. Opponents under the control of the AI also became more pumped up. They can displace the racer from the track, block his way, well pass the turns and do not concede to the rival at the finish line. This approach helps keep the tension until the very end of the race.
