More about Speedtest

The Ookla SpeedTest desktop application can be downloaded and used completely for free, giving you the ability to check your internet speed with a simple click of a button.

Ookla Speedtest has a wide network of servers located around the world, provided through partnerships with major web hosting providers and internet service providers. This allows Ookla to not only inform you how fast your internet connection is to servers in your region, but also anywhere in the world, with over 6000 test servers to choose from.

The application measures the bandwidth of your network in both directions (download and upload), as well as ping and jitter. Additionally, it determines your external IP address and its geolocation, providing valuable information about your presence and location on the internet.

Components:

  • Download, upload, ping, jitter, and packet loss tests.
  • Troubleshooting.
  • Detailed reports allow you to track previous tests.

In order to obtain the most accurate results, it is recommended to follow these steps:

1. Close all active programs and applications running in the background. This will help free up system resources and reduce the impact of other processes on your computer's performance.

2. Pause all downloads and updates. If your computer is currently downloading or updating the system or other programs, it can negatively affect the speed and performance. Wait until the download and update processes are complete before conducting the test.

3. Disconnect any external devices and peripherals connected to your computer. Connected devices can consume computer resources and affect its performance.

4. If possible, connect your computer directly to the router using a cable and disable the use of wireless connection. Wired connection can provide a more stable and faster internet connection. If Wi-Fi is necessary, ensure that you are the only user of this network during the testing in order to eliminate the influence of other users on the speed.

These recommendations will help minimize potential sources of influence on the speed and performance of your computer and internet connection, allowing you to obtain the most accurate results.

Without creating a user account, you have the option to pre-select your preferred testing server, one that you like the most or the one closest to your location, in the program settings.

You can choose the units of measurement for the speed test results - kilobits (Kb) or megabits (Mb).

The "Results" page displays a list of all the tests you have taken, as well as the best result out of all the tests conducted. There is the ability to export the test results to a CSV file for further analysis or saving.

In this program, you can not only share the results of the last test, but also all of your Speedtest.net results. You can also get a list of all your results to see how the speed changes over time.

Speedtest.net differs from other internet speed testing sites in that it saves the results of previous tests, filters them, and shows the results you need: for a specific server or IP address.
