More about FAR Manager

By its appearance and operations, the program strongly resembles Norton Commander. And in terms of functionality and capabilities, it is a worthy competitor to Total Commander. It has a simple console interface, divided into 2 large columns (right and left).

To switch the active column, you need to press the Tab key on the computer keyboard. And to go up a level, you will need to click on the colon-shaped icon with the mouse.

The default font is quite small. Therefore, it is better to change it, which can be done through the properties of the program shortcut on the desktop. As a result, the interface becomes much more readable.

The interface is implemented in a user-friendly manner - 2 columns side by side, a control panel at the bottom, and information at the top.

At the very top of the left column is the path to the file (similar to the address bar of the OS File Explorer). Below, in the column, is the list of files and subdirectories. Further down, in the lower part of the column, there is information about the file (directory) that the cursor is pointing to. Even lower - information about the current directory is indicated.

Next is the black console. This is an analog of the Run ➢ cmd menu item located in the Start menu of the Windows operating system. And at the bottom - the control panel is located, the elements of which become available when any of the keys starting from F1 and ending with F12 are pressed.

All file management in Far Manager can only be done with the mouse. But experienced users often prefer to use combinations of hotkeys on the keyboard. For example, to display the peripheral buttons in the control panel, simply hold down Alt or Shift.

The functionality of the program can be expanded through plugins. For example, the ARCLITE plugin is a built-in archiver that allows you to create and extract archives. And the "case conversion" plugin allows you to replace lowercase characters with uppercase ones and vice versa in documents.

FAR Manager is a convenient and easy-to-use file manager based on Norton Commander. The product is characterized by easy management, fast operation, and the ability to use combinations of hotkeys for copying, moving, or, for example, deleting files. This is a worthy "opponent" of Total Commander, suitable for managing both novices and more experienced Windows OS users.
