The project is quite high quality as a game - there is pleasant action, interesting exploration of grotesque locations and special abilities. But the primary value of the game lies in its idea and presentation. Under the background of a sad cautionary tale about how you can't just get rid of the elements of society you don't like, serious social issues are revealed.
Bioshock is loved primarily because it allows itself to be very unusual. It successfully combines elements of horror and survival with some hardcore action and puzzles. The gameplay, while very good, serves only as a backdrop for the imaginative dialogue between the protagonist and the antagonist, which sometimes descends into biblical motifs.
That's not to say, however, that without an interest in deeper meanings Bioshock has nothing to hook the player. There is a great story here, even if you don't delve into all sorts of references and just enjoy it while studying the lore of this unusual universe. Like any quality game-idea, Bioshock has many facets - that's why its audience is so wide.
Advantages of the project:
Now the game, like the direct sequel, has a remaster - a graphically and technically improved copy of the game. For the newcomers, who have never heard anything about Bioshock and even more so, who have not caught the game in the late 2000s, it is advisable to play this version. If you are acquainted with this famous project and just want to feel nostalgic, then any version will be up-to-date - anyway the game did not have great technical problems.
You should play Bioshock if you are:
It's hard to argue with the fact that Bioshock is a cult game. An imposing age by today's standards is no barrier to try a truly unique project.
