Description

Surely many have seen reports about mysterious events that took place or are taking place in places where the average person will never get to. A project with a retro-style text quest Somewhere: The Vault Papers shows just such a situation - only the player is in the role of the one who must get to the truth and show the whole world what is happening in the remotest corners away from civilization or, on the contrary, under its very side.

More about Somewhere

The plot of the project is worth it to unravel it yourself - it is the only way to enjoy the game to the fullest. The main gameplay is the process of correspondence and other actions on the screen of the virtual smartphone (the interface perfectly corresponds to the real device) and the investigation itself. No annoying markers or other characters rushing you - you get exactly as much time as you need to investigate.

Perhaps at first the rarely minimalistic format can be discouraging, but after a few minutes in the game it becomes clear that this is a deliberate trick - so that the player is immersed in the viscous atmosphere of the investigation of a dangerous mystery and not distracted by anything extraneous.

Advantages of the game:

  1. Retro styling. Text-based quests have long lost popularity due to the removal of technical restrictions from the gaming industry and now remain only in the form of retro exotics. Somewhere: The Vault Papers doesn't just resurrect the forgotten canons of purely story-based games, but does so in a modern way, using a smartphone interface.
  2. It's a minimalistic but pleasant style. The developers have done their best to strike a balance between "past" and "present". The game does not exactly repeat the text quests of the past, changed many moments that may deter the modern player. Artwork and sound effects are also present.
  3. There is an interesting story. In a game that only has a story, you can't pay enough attention to it. The story in Somewhere: The Vault Papers is excellent, presented in a measured and proper manner - as a reward for skillful puzzle solving.
  4. An oppressive atmosphere of mystery. The developers have managed to convey through a minimal interface and a set of artistic tricks everything that a good setting requires. The player can not just once feel uncomfortable - so well designed immersion in the story.

Somewhere: The Vault Papers will suit anyone who is not sure of a lot of free time or can only play on a smartphone. As the main puzzle hidden in the project is quite large-scale, its solution can take more than one hour - everything depends on the experience of each individual player.
